It's a Four Letter Word

I spent several days on our family farm this week. The farm is a family farm and I have a sense of connection to it. When I visit there is always a lot of work to be done. I know there is a lot of work to be done as I already own my own home. There is always a lot to be done there as well. My mother gives me an idea of what needs doing and what she would like to accomplish while I am visiting. Usually the two lists are in sync. The To-Do list is always ready for me when I arrive. Once I am at the farm and begin working, it just feels natural. My parents taught me how to work so the "list" does not feel daunting to me. I take it one step at a time and always revel in whatever we are able to accomplish (we actually wrote out all the things we accomplished which made it feel like a real accomplishment).

What about you? What is your attitude toward the "list?" Do you dread it? Do you find it hard to get started or to keep going?

Throughout our lives, we will always, always have a list of things to do. This will only change at one point. Otherwise, "the list" is and will always be there. Some people might say, what about when we are children? Even children have a list! When we are very young, our list is very basic: learning how to eat, sleep, walk, talk, etc. As we age, the list changes: School gets added and maybe some small household chores. The list will get more complicated as we continue to add more skills.

So how do we approach all this successfully without stressing or burning out? The answer is that it is easy!

First of all, we are given all the skills we need to cope. That's right-for what each of us needs to accomplish, we have everything we need. If our minds, eyes and our hearts are open and receptive, we will acknowledge this and in the process, feel an overwhelming sense of peace. Our lives will flow smoothly and easily, just as nature, (God, the Divine) intended. If our minds are not open to what is already there for us, then life might seem disjointed, stressful and incomplete. The amazing part of all this is that the answer is not in some elaborate plan that is difficult to implement. The difference between the two is merely in a person's attitude.

Many children today approach work with a sense of dread (I sometimes see it in my own). As if they had better things to do. Or, they just rush through their responsibilities, not fully mature enough to realize that the "list" never ends. As adults we should be aware of this but we are not always. That is one of the reasons that I love going to the farm. The work is just there. There is no analyzing it. It just has to be done. Life there has a natural flow.

Wouldn't that approach "work for all of our work?"

Work, like life itself, is easy. If we let it be. if we accept what is, then we can achieve a tremendous amount in a very short time. each of us has been supplied with all we need to succeed and be happy. Work is not something that has been put before us to challenge us, torture us or make us fail. Work, our daily chores, or whatever name you want to give it, is just another part of life and should be treated as just that.

At A Better Life in Newburyport MA, we can help you with your approach to "the list.".  For more help with this, please call Andrew Morris at A Better Life –  978-465-8122, or email me at ajmorris2@VERIZON.NET or visit our website at http://abetterlife4u.us
