This is a busy time of year. It is easy to get caught up in the fast pace. When this happens, it is easy to forget what the holidays are all about: love, compassion and appreciation. When focusing on appreciation, it is crucial to remember that in order to appreciate anything, you have to be in the right place mentally and emotionally. If you spend too much time rushing from one thing to another, then there is very little time for appreciation. In order to truly appreciate anything, one of the best things that you can do is to simply slow down. Let go of the idea that you must be productive and busy all the time. It is OK to take some time during the day, to just relax or to do very little. This approach has several positive aspects. First, slowing down is meditative. Also slowing down helps you to appreciate things. (looking at scenery at 75 mph is very different than doing it at 30 mph). And last, believe it or not, when you slow down, instead of being less productive, you actually end up being more. This holiday season, try slowing down a bit.
